Falun is about 220 km north of Stockholm, reached by train via Borlänge (around 2.5–3 hours from Stockholm Central on regional trains). Borlänge is the main rail hub for the region; from there, a connecting train or bus covers the 22 km to Falun in about 30 minutes. Direct trains from Stockholm to Falun run on some schedules — check the Swedish rail booking site (sj.se) for current timetables.
By car from Stockholm, the drive is around 2.5 hours via the E16 motorway. Falun has no commercial airport of its own; the nearest airports with domestic flights are at Borlänge (Dala Airport, very limited service) and Mora Siljan (for seasonal flights). Most visitors fly into Stockholm Arlanda and travel overland.
