Open-air museum of old Lapland buildings on the Vassara lake shore

A small but charming open-air museum on the shore of Vassara Lake, just west of the centre. About a dozen old buildings have been moved here from around Lapland and reassembled — a Sami goahti tent, a smoke sauna, a farmhouse and barn, a settler's cabin, a fishing hut — to show how people lived here before the railway and the mines.

The museum is mostly open in summer (mid-June to mid-August), staffed by volunteers, with occasional craft demonstrations. Free entry. Combine it with a stroll along the lakeshore.
