Perävaara Struve Point

Forested Swedish point on the UNESCO-listed Struve Geodetic Arc, with original markings preserved.

Perävaara is one of the Swedish stations on the Struve Geodetic Arc, the 19th-century survey chain used to measure the size and shape of the earth. The full arc runs from the Arctic Ocean to the Black Sea, and UNESCO lists selected points across ten countries.

This point is deep enough in the forest to feel like a small expedition. From the road near Karunki, expect a drive on minor roads and a forest walk to the summit area. It is a niche sight, but a satisfying one if you like maps, science, and lonely places.
