Lund's bar and café scene is largely shaped by its university. The thirteen student nations — membership organisations founded in the seventeenth century, each originally affiliated with a Swedish province — run their own pubs, restaurants, and party venues that are among the cheapest places to drink in the city. Many nations open their pubs to the general public on certain evenings; it's worth checking what's on if you want to experience the city from the inside rather than as a tourist.
Stortorget and the surrounding streets have the main concentration of conventional cafés and bars. The Grand Hotel on Bantorget has a bar that draws a slightly older crowd. For coffee, the city has several independent roasters and cafés around the university campus area.
