Lysekil's food is fish: prawns hauled out of the Skagerrak that morning, smoked mackerel from the harbour shacks, oysters and crab from the surrounding skerries. Locals will tell you to time a visit around lunch and order whatever the boats brought in. The harbour boardwalk has two or three reliably good seafood restaurants in summer, with terraces over the water; in winter most close and the action moves to the handful of year-round places in the town centre.
Worth seeking out: räkmacka — open prawn sandwich on dark bread — at one of the harbour kiosks, and a glass of west-coast aquavit if you have an evening to spare. Prices are higher than inland Sweden, in line with other Bohuslän coast towns.
