The Siljan area rewards slow travel. The towns around the lake — Mora, Rättvik, Leksand, and Orsa — each have their own character, and the landscapes between them are as rewarding as the destinations. Walking, cycling, paddling, and simply sitting at the water's edge are all legitimate ways to spend time here. The region also has a handful of genuinely distinctive cultural draws: a world-class open-air concert venue, a state museum dedicated to one of Sweden's greatest painters, and the Dala horse workshops where the country's most famous folk object has been made by hand for two centuries.
