Henning Mankell set ten Kurt Wallander novels in and around Ystad, and the local tourist office runs a free self-guided "Wallander Walk" through the locations: the apartment block on Mariagatan where Wallander lives, the police station on Östra Hamngatan, the Fridolf bakery on Lilla Norregatan, the cinema, the bookshop, and Wallander's favourite restaurants. The Cineteket studio complex on the outskirts of town, where the British and Swedish television series were filmed, runs paid tours of the sets.
Maps and brochures are at the tourist office on Stortorget. For dedicated fans, the Cineteket tour and lunch at the studios are a half-day commitment in their own right.
