The main artery of Carouge's historic centre, lined with low arcaded buildings that give the street an unmistakably Italian feel. The arcades — a standard feature of the 18th-century Sardinian grid plan — shelter independent boutiques, artisan workshops, a few wine bars, and small restaurants. Walking its full length takes ten minutes; spending an afternoon here takes much longer.
The buildings are typically two or three storeys of ochre and cream stucco, with shuttered windows and iron balconies. It is the best single street in the Geneva area for browsing independent shops — jewellers, ceramicists, bookshops, and clothing designers that exist nowhere else in the city.
