Grosse Scheidegg

High mountain pass above Grindelwald with Wetterhorn views and classic hiking routes.

Grosse Scheidegg is the quieter high pass above Grindelwald, set between the Wetterhorn and the Schwarzhorn at just under 2,000 metres. The road is closed to ordinary through traffic, which helps keep the pass feeling alpine rather than merely scenic.

Hikers use it for routes toward First, Schwarzwaldalp, and Meiringen, while cyclists know it as a hard, beautiful climb. If Kleine Scheidegg is the famous rail-and-Eiger experience, Grosse Scheidegg is the more open, pastoral alternative with big views and fewer crowds.
