Lausanne has a livelier bar scene than its polished reputation suggests, driven partly by the EPFL and university student populations. The Flon district is the main hub, with bars spilling out onto terraces in summer. The old town has calmer cafes and wine bars suited to an evening with a carafe of Chasselas. Closing times are later than most Swiss cities — bars can stay open until 3am or 4am on weekends.
