Pinte Besson

Lausanne's oldest tavern, serving fondue and rösti since 1780

Pinte Besson claims to be the oldest tavern in Lausanne, and the interior makes the claim believable: low ceilings, dark wood, and a slightly chaotic arrangement of tables that suggests centuries of use. It has been serving wine, fondue, and Vaud specialities since around 1780.

The fondue here is classic moitié-moitié (half Gruyère, half Vacherin), served with the right amount of kirsch and crusty bread. The raclette is also good. Prices are moderate by Lausanne standards. It is small and popular — reservations are worthwhile for dinner, especially on weekends.
