Walliser Alpentherme

The Walliser Alpentherme is Leukerbad's other major spa complex and the one that tends to attract a slightly more local clientele. The focus here is on the Roman-Irish bath circuit — a traditional sequence of steam rooms, hot baths, and cold plunges that takes a couple of hours to complete properly. The design pays more attention to the therapeutic and traditional aspects of bathing culture than the resort-hotel atmosphere of its neighbour.

Outdoor pools here also look up at the Gemmi cliff, and the temperature variety across the pools is similar to the Leukerbad Therme. Many visitors buy day passes to both complexes and spend the day moving between them, comparing notes. In practice, the two places are quite similar in the essentials; the choice often comes down to which has space available when you arrive.
