Lugano has a strong café culture in the Italian tradition — meaning coffee is taken seriously, standing up at the bar if necessary, and the morning cornetto is not optional. The aperitivo scene is equally well-developed: Aperol Spritz and Campari Soda appear on the terraces around the Piazza della Riforma from about 6pm, when half the city seems to descend for a drink before dinner.
