Monte Brè

The funicular to Monte Brè (933 m) runs from the suburb of Cassarate up to what is reportedly the sunniest peak in Switzerland. The views stretch north to the Bernese Alps and south over the lake. At the top, a handful of trails wind through chestnut forest and past the pretty hillside village of Brè, which has good options for a meal or a coffee. Even in winter, when the valley floor can be grey and damp, the summit often catches sunshine — which makes it a popular escape on cold days.
