Pas de Morgins

The mountain pass at 1,369 metres that marks the border between Switzerland and France, and the hinge connecting the Swiss and French halves of the Portes du Soleil ski domain. From Morgins, the pass is a short ski run or a pleasant forty-five-minute walk through open meadows above the village.

In summer, the Pas de Morgins is a comfortable hiking destination, with views back down over the Morgins valley and forward into the French commune of Châtel. It is also the start of several longer routes into the Chablais Alps, including the Tour of the Portes du Soleil — a multi-day circuit that can be done on foot or by mountain bike.

A story
The pass has been a crossing point between Savoy and Valais for centuries. In winter it is one of only a handful of places in the Alps where you can ski across an international border without removing your skis or showing your passport — the lifts and pistes of the Portes du Soleil domain simply ignore the boundary between Switzerland and France.
