The abbey precinct is the heart of any visit to Saint Gallen. The cathedral and the library can be visited separately; the library in particular requires advance booking in peak season. Beyond the abbey, the old town's oriel-windowed streets are a pleasure to walk, and the Textile Museum gives real context to the industry that built this city's wealth. For green space, the Stadtpark near the theatre is pleasant, and the Drei Weieren — three natural swimming ponds on the hill above the city — are where locals go in summer.
