Getting Around

Wengen has no cars, which is either wonderfully peaceful or slightly impractical depending on your luggage. A small fleet of electric taxis and luggage carriers serves the hotel trade and the station; otherwise you walk. The village is compact and most of the accommodation is within 10–15 minutes of the station on foot.

For the mountains, everything departs from or near the station. The Wengernalp Railway climbs to Kleine Scheidegg; the Männlichen cable car goes up from the upper edge of the village. Both are included on the Jungfrau Travel Pass, which covers most transport in the region and is worth buying for stays of more than a day. The Swiss Travel Pass covers standard trains down in the valley but not the mountain railways above Lauterbrunnen.
