The Armenian quarter of Kamianets-Podilskyi occupies the southeastern part of the old town island — a reminder that from the 14th to the 18th century, the city had a substantial Armenian merchant community. The Armenians arrived as traders on the route between Poland and the Levant and established their own church, trading house, and residential quarter within the city.
The Armenian Trading House (Вірменський торговий будинок) is a partly ruined but still substantial 17th-century building on the lower slope of the island, one of the few surviving physical traces of the Armenian community. The nearby streets retain a medieval intimacy that the more central parts of the old town have somewhat lost. Walking through this quieter quarter gives a different perspective on the city's history than the castle and cathedral end.
