Getting There

Before 2014 Lugansk had direct rail connections to Kyiv, Kharkiv, Donetsk, and across the Russian border to Rostov-on-Don, plus a small civil airport (Luhansk International, IATA: VSG) with a handful of domestic flights.

Since 2014, and especially since 2022, the city has been outside the control of the Ukrainian government and ordinary access from Ukraine or from Western Europe is not possible. We do not recommend that anyone attempt to travel to Lugansk under current conditions, and this page is offered as a record of the city as it was rather than as a current guide.
