Transfiguration Cathedral

The Transfiguration Cathedral (Spaso-Preobrazhenskyi Sobor) is one of the most prominent landmarks in Vinnytsia, a large Orthodox cathedral on the riverbank a short walk from the city centre. The current building dates from the early 19th century and was built in a late-Baroque and neoclassical style, with a tall bell tower visible from much of the surrounding area.

The cathedral served various religious communities over the years — it was a Russian Orthodox church before the revolution, was closed and used as a warehouse during the Soviet period, and has since been returned to religious use. The interior was substantially restored after independence and contains iconostasis work typical of Ukrainian Orthodox tradition. The setting on the Southern Bug, with the cathedral facade facing the river, makes it one of the most photographed buildings in the city.
