Priory Theatre

A small amateur theatre tucked into a converted building near Abbey Fields. The Priory Theatre Club has been staging plays since 1932, runs about ten productions a year, and has a loyal audience that fills its 130-odd seats reliably.

The bill leans toward Ayckbourn, Coward, and modern comedies, with the occasional Shakespeare or new writing. Tickets are cheap and the standard is high for amateur work. If you are in town overnight and looking for something other than a pub, check what is on.
