St Nicholas is a Church of England parish church begun in the twelfth century and rebuilt repeatedly since. The most striking feature is the great west doorway: a recycled Norman arch lifted from the ruins of the nearby Augustinian priory after the Dissolution, with chevron and beak-head carving still sharp eight centuries on.
The interior is broad and light, with a fine fifteenth-century font and several memorial brasses. The churchyard runs straight into Abbey Fields, so a visit here folds naturally into a wider walk through the priory ruins and the open meadow.
