Nottingham sits on the Midland Main Line between London St Pancras and Sheffield; East Midlands Railway trains from St Pancras take just under two hours. CrossCountry services connect Nottingham with Birmingham (about 75 minutes), the North East and Edinburgh, and the South West via Birmingham.
By road the city is at the junction of the M1 (junctions 24, 25 and 26) and A52, well placed for the East Midlands and the southern Peak District. East Midlands Airport is 15 miles south-west with a regular Skylink bus into the city; it handles mostly low-cost European routes. Birmingham is the nearest airport for long-haul.
Nottingham Station is a 15-minute walk south of the centre or two stops on the NET tram, which is the easiest way to reach Old Market Square.
