Sherwood Forest

Sherwood Forest is the surviving heart of the medieval hunting forest linked with the Robin Hood legends. The modern reserve around Edwinstowe is much smaller than the old forest, but it still has ancient oaks, easy walking trails, and a visitor centre that explains the woodland's history and folklore.

The best-known tree is the Major Oak, a huge hollow oak said in legend to have sheltered Robin Hood and his outlaws. The main paths are gentle and family-friendly, and Worksop makes a practical base for visiting the forest and the nearby Dukeries estates.
