Ascension Parish Burial Ground

The Ascension Parish Burial Ground on All Souls Lane in West Cambridge is a small Victorian cemetery that holds an extraordinary concentration of Cambridge scientists, philosophers, and scholars. Among those buried here are Ludwig Wittgenstein, J.J. Thomson (who discovered the electron at the Cavendish Laboratory a short distance away), and numerous other fellows of the university who shaped their fields.

The graveyard is quiet, shaded, and not widely visited — which makes it a pleasant place to walk on a warm afternoon as well as a genuinely interesting stop for anyone interested in the history of science or philosophy. Free and open daily.
