Waltham Cross is a commuter town and visitors come for two specific things: the surviving Eleanor Cross at the centre of the high street, and the older religious complex at Waltham Abbey across the River Lea in Essex. Both can be walked between in twenty minutes.
The Lee Valley Regional Park, which begins on the eastern edge of the town, adds a third reason to visit — water meadows, canal towpaths, nature reserves, and the white-water slalom course built for the 2012 London Olympics.
