Housed in a 17th-century solicitor's office that was once the workplace of Beatrix Potter's husband, this National Trust gallery displays a rotating selection of her original watercolour illustrations, manuscripts, and natural history drawings. The rooms are kept much as they were in William Heelis's day, which adds to the atmosphere.
The queue can be long in peak season and entry is timed. National Trust members get in free; booking ahead is strongly recommended in July and August.
