London's oldest wine bar, open since 1890 in a candlelit cave of Victorian brickwork below Embankment. Walls covered in old newspapers, bottles piled ceiling-high, tables jammed together — it's cramped and charismatic. The wine list is long and reasonably priced. In summer, the terrace on the Victoria Embankment fills up from early evening. Come before 6pm if you want a table.
