A narrow, deep, beautifully preserved Victorian pub above the Quayside on the Side. Two stained-glass windows by Stephen Adam, an etched-glass partition, a pressed-tin ceiling, and a clientele of all ages crammed into a single long room. The beer is well-kept Camerons and a rotating cask; food is sandwiches and pies, no more.
A working man's pub in the early evening, a place to slow down. No televisions, no music, no children after 7pm. Five minutes' walk from the Castle Stairs.
