The centre is compact and walkable — Quayside to Eldon Square in twenty minutes. The Tyne and Wear Metro is the easiest way to reach Gateshead, Jesmond, the airport, the coast, and the Stadium of Light in Sunderland; a day ticket is reasonable value. Buses fill the gaps. Taxis are easy to hail in the centre but app-based rides are cheaper and quicker after 8pm.
