Church of St Lawrence

The Church of St Lawrence stands at the top of Warkworth's main street and is one of the better-preserved Norman churches in Northumberland. The earliest parts of the building date to the 12th century, and the chancel in particular retains Norman stonework largely undisturbed by later renovation.

The church is still in regular use as a parish church. Notable features include the effigy of a medieval knight believed to be a member of the Clavering family, and the distinctive tower with its medieval spire. The churchyard contains a number of old grave slabs; the whole ensemble of church, tower, and the main street sloping down to the river makes for one of the most photographed views in Northumberland.
