Eating Out

Bolton takes its food traditions seriously. The town has a strong claim on the Lancashire obsession with meat pies and black pudding, and the covered market hall remains the best place to find both in their most uncompromising forms. Several stalls have been selling the same products from the same pitches for decades, and the black pudding sold here — spiced with a local recipe that differs from the Bury version a few miles away — has its own devoted following across the region.

Beyond the market, Bolton has a solid range of curry houses, reflecting the South Asian communities that have shaped the town since the 1960s. The stretch around Bradshawgate and the surrounding streets offers the most choice for an evening meal.
