The Groves is Chester's softest edge: a riverside promenade along the Dee where the city loosens from Roman walls and half-timbered streets into boats, trees, and open water. It is not a monument in the usual sense, but it is one of the easiest places to understand why Chester works as a walking city.
Come here between heavier sights, especially if the centre is busy. Pleasure boats leave from the river, the benches are good for a pause, and the path gives a simple, low-effort route into the green side of town.
