Things to Do

Chester rewards a slow visit more than a rushed one. Walk the full circuit of the Roman walls, then drop into the Rows — the medieval galleried shopping streets unique to Chester — and make your way to the cathedral. The Roman amphitheatre south of the city walls is the largest ever excavated in Britain. Chester Zoo, three miles north of the centre, is one of the best in Europe and a full day on its own.
