Brockholes is a wetland nature reserve on former gravel pits beside the River Ribble, just outside Preston. Its floating visitor village, reedbeds, lakes, and trails make it one of the easiest places near the city to watch birds and get a proper dose of open air.
It is best in daylight and decent weather, with binoculars if you have them. Families can use it as a gentle nature stop, while birders and walkers will get more from the hides, seasonal wildlife, and riverside paths.
