The city centre is small and easily walkable — most of the sights listed here are within fifteen minutes of Market Square. For Deepdale, the Lancashire Infantry Museum, or the Ribble Steam Railway, you will need a bus or a short taxi ride. Local buses operate from the brutalist bus station; the Preston Bus and Stagecoach networks cover the city and the surrounding towns.
Cycling is reasonable, particularly along the Ribble cycle paths, but the road network in the centre is built for cars and the cycle infrastructure is patchy. Taxis are widely available and inexpensive.
