Walton Hall and Gardens

Address Walton Lea Road, Higher Walton, Warrington WA4 6SN

A Victorian country estate a few kilometres south of the town centre, now a public park and gardens run by the local council. The hall itself sits on an island in a lake and houses a heritage centre with displays on the history of the Warrington area. The surrounding grounds include formal gardens, a children's zoo with small animals, a miniature railway, and extensive parkland popular with walkers and families.

The gardens were laid out in the mid-19th century and retain their Victorian character, with mature trees, specimen plantings, and a boating lake. It is a generous green space by any standard and one of the better free days out in Cheshire. The heritage centre is modest but worth half an hour for context on the region's history.
