Getting There

Abingdon has no railway station — the line that once served it was closed in 1963 — so most arrivals are by bus or car from Oxford, six miles to the north.

The frequent Stagecoach X3 and X32 buses connect Abingdon to Oxford city centre (about 25 minutes) and continue south to Wantage and Didcot. Didcot Parkway railway station, on the main London Paddington line, is six miles south and reached by the same bus routes; it is the obvious arrival point if coming from London.

By car, Abingdon is just off the A34 between Oxford and Newbury. There are several town-centre car parks; the largest is at Charter Quay, a short walk from the market square. The town is also a regular stop for narrowboat hire on the upper Thames.
