The town's medieval parish church sits on the High Street at the corner of Church Lane, its squat central tower visible from much of the town. The core of the building is thirteenth-century, with later additions running through to a heavy Victorian restoration by William Butterfield. Inside, the medieval glass and a number of fine alabaster monuments survive in the chancel and the side chapels.
The churchyard is the resting place of generations of local notables, and the headmasters of nearby Berkhamsted School are commemorated on a long brass in the south aisle. Open daily for visitors in daylight hours; concerts and recitals are held most months.
