North Laine does vinyl records, retro fashion, handmade goods, and everything adjacent to them. The Open Market off London Road has weekly stalls selling food, crafts, and vintage items. Churchill Square is the main covered shopping centre for chains and high-street brands.
The city is particularly strong on vintage clothing. Both The Lanes and North Laine have shops that change their stock weekly. For books, City Books on Western Road is one of the best independent bookshops in the south-east.
