St Bartholomew's Church is a startling piece of Victorian Brighton: a huge brick church whose plain exterior hides a soaring interior. The nave is famously tall, giving the space a vertical drama closer to a continental basilica than a neighbourhood parish church.
It sits just north of the station, so it is easy to miss if you head straight for the Lanes or seafront. Step inside if the doors are open; the scale, brickwork and filtered light are the whole point.
