Gillingham High Street

Gillingham High Street is the main pedestrianised shopping strip running east-west through the town centre, with the railway station at one end and the post office at the other. It is a typical Medway high street: a mix of national chains, charity shops, takeaways, and a small but stubborn cluster of independent traders.

For visitors the High Street is mostly useful as orientation — the road links the station to the bus stops, the small public library on Canterbury Street, and the modest pedestrian zone with its benches and seasonal markets. The Saturday street market, when it runs, has fresh produce, jewellery, and bric-à-brac. A 20-minute walk-through is plenty unless you need something specific.
