A small free local-history museum tucked into the medieval castle wall, covering the archaeology and history of Guildford and west Surrey. Highlights include Saxon and medieval finds from the town, a Victorian schoolroom recreation, and a strong section on the local needlework tradition — Surrey was once a centre of British lacemaking and lined-knot embroidery.
A useful 45-minute companion to a visit to the castle next door. The museum shop is one of the few places to buy honest-to-goodness Surrey-history publications.
