Holy Trinity Church

18th-century parish church at the top of the High Street

The square brick Georgian church at the top of the High Street, rebuilt in 1763 after the medieval church on the same site collapsed. It served as the pro-cathedral of the Diocese of Guildford from 1927 until the new cathedral was consecrated in 1961, which explains its disproportionately civic scale.

Inside, the chancel contains an unusual 1758 monument to George Abbot, Archbishop of Canterbury under James I, who was born in Guildford and founded the almshouses across the High Street. Open most days; the choir is one of the better parish musical foundations in the south-east.
