Yvonne Arnaud Theatre

Riverside repertory theatre with serious West End ambitions

A 590-seat producing theatre on the River Wey opened in 1965, named after the French-British actress Yvonne Arnaud who lived locally. The theatre has a long history of producing plays that transfer to the West End and of attracting major actors — anything from a Donmar-style three-hander to a touring musical can turn up in a given season.

Worth checking the programme. The riverside foyer and bar make a good pre-show meeting point, and the early-evening light on the river is genuinely lovely.
