Rochester Bridge carries the road over the Medway between Rochester and Strood, on a crossing used since Roman times. The present bridge dates mainly from 1914, with later widening, and is still maintained by one of England's oldest bridge trusts.
Walk across for the best river views back to Rochester Castle and the cathedral. It is a short stop, but it helps make sense of why the town grew here.
