Southampton's maritime museum centred on the Titanic's crew

Address Havelock Road, Southampton SO14 7FY

Southampton's maritime museum is built around the city's connection to the Titanic. The main gallery recreates the ship's departure and the inquiry that followed, drawing on objects, documents, and personal stories from the crew members — the majority of whom were from Southampton. There is also a strong section on the port's wider history, from the medieval wool trade to the great ocean liners of the twentieth century. Allow two hours.

A story
More than 500 of the Titanic's 899 crew members came from Southampton — stokers, stewards, engineers, cooks. When the ship sank on 15 April 1912, the news hit the city like a local disaster. Whole streets lost several men at once. The SeaCity galleries restore their names and faces to the story.
