A bronze and stone memorial in Andrews Park, one block north of the Civic Centre, commemorating the 35 engineers of the Titanic. All 35 stayed below in the engine and boiler rooms to keep the generators running, lighting the ship and powering the wireless that called for rescue. They drowned at their posts. The memorial was paid for by public subscription within months of the disaster and unveiled in April 1914.
A bronze figure of Nike stands above the dedication, holding out wreaths. The sculptor was Whitehead and Sons of Westminster. Often overshadowed by the SeaCity Museum exhibit two minutes away, the memorial is worth a few minutes for the directness of its sentiment.
