Buckler's Hard is an 18th-century shipbuilding village on the Beaulieu River, where warships for the Royal Navy were built from New Forest oak. The preserved village street still runs down to the old slips, giving the place a strong sense of its maritime past.
The maritime museum explains the yard's role during the Napoleonic Wars and the later decline of the industry. It pairs well with nearby Beaulieu for a full day in the eastern New Forest.
