Crooklets Beach

The north Bude beach — better for surfing than Summerleaze, quieter too

Crooklets is a sand-and-pebble beach a short walk north of Summerleaze, accessible on foot along the coastal path or by the road at the northern end of the town. It is more exposed than Summerleaze — the waves are bigger and the beach more suited to surfing and bodyboarding — and considerably less busy in summer. The beach hosts the British National Surfing Championships when conditions align.

The area around Crooklets has a slightly different character to the town centre: calmer, residential, with a good beach cafe. The rock platforms at the northern end are accessible at low tide and offer excellent rock pooling. The South West Coast Path continues north from Crooklets toward Compass Point and Northcott Mouth, another quiet cove about a mile further on.
